Partnership Educators,
Responding to complaints from his wife about how difficult it is to iron clothes on uneven surfaces, Elijah J. McCoy invented the easy set up and fold up Ironing Table.  Elijah was a prolific inventor in the 1800's and received patents for other things like lawn sprinklers and many devices that self lubricated machinery.
As we wind down this school year, we are all continuing our work on serving our students.  I have seen many teachers who have taken the difficulty of the situation and come up with inventive ways to better serve their students and help them learn.  Thanks to all that continue to push and ask how they can honor our profession of public service by inventing new ways to reach our students.  LIke Elijah and many other inventors, when we see a need, we look for new ways to fulfill that need.  Thank you for your work.
Next week is Classified Appreciation week and I am giving another shout out to our wonderful classified workers who are still serving or looking for ways to serve.  A huge thanks to food service workers, custodians, office staff, instructional support aides, after school personnel to name a few.  All of our classified staff are invited to a distance celebration and treats giveaway at the District Office Drive by Event from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm on May 21, 2020.  Please come in your cars and our administrative staff will have the chance to give you a gift and celebrate your commitment to our district.  Location: 5885 East Bonnyview Redding 96001.

This week at the Redding Board meeting we had the pleasure to honor some fantastics groups and individuals.
First, I would like you all to congratulate Janetta Demott for her selection of Rotary Teacher of the Year.  This is quite an honor. Thanks Janetta for your work with our students and families.
Second, let's all let our Maintenance, Operations and Facilities winner David Boydstun know how much we appreciate him.  Thanks Dave for your dedicated work on our grounds and buildings as well as your support of our learning programs with yoru carpentry skills.
Next, we would ask you to watch two videos for our celebration of employees who are at two ends of the spectrum.  First, thanks to our retiring employees for their years of service.  We thank you and wish you nothing but greatness in your retirement.  Second, we invite you all to watch a video honoring our staff members who are past probation and are becoming a permanent part of the Redding family.
2020-2021 School Year Planning:
We are participating in the planning process with Shasta County Public Health, Shasta County Office of Education, and other surrounding districts around the opening of the schools for the coming year. Time will ultimately tell us about what changes we will need to put in place. Just as was done for the opening of businesses and other public venues, there will be guidance and directives for schools.   As I stated in my post to families on May 8, 2020 " We are committed to offering school as close to normal as is permitted. We are also planning to make sure that a variety of options for schooling are available if needed."  The education of our children is imperative and important enough to figure out all of the possible ways to educate our children in this time of pandemic.  We are sending out a survey to our families this coming week so we can get a feel for what our families are thinking in terms of sending their children back to school for next year.   We will most likely do this a few times before the start of next year.  I am hearing from some parents that they are ready for school to start as normal but I am also hearing from parents that they will not be sending their children back until they feel this is over.  We may need to have a variety of offerings.  We also need to acknowledge that some of the decisions will be in the hands of the health officials who are working to keep our communities safe.  There will assuredly be some restrictions for the opening of our schools which Redding Schools will work hard to implement.  We will all need to follow protocols and help our children to follow protocols we are asked to put in place.  It is definitely a multilayered issue and we are planning for many scenarios for the coming year.  I encourage you to stay informed with posts on our website or Facebook page.  I have tried to keep our families informed.  https://reddingschools.net/home

The safety of our students and staff are of the utmost concern and we will always work hard to keep people safe and to educate the children we have been blessed with.  Again, rest assured that our plan is to offer a wide range of solutions for the coming year within the health guidelines that are directed for us to follow.  If we are allowed, opening school as normal is definitely part of our plan.  I hope this finds you and your family well and thanks again for your continued work.

Have a great weekend,
Rob
