Hello Partnership Educators,

Aristotle in his writings about momentum claimed that something that is tossed is "kept moving by something in the air."  Most scholars at that time and for some time after used his theory for describing why momentum happened to an object.  It was John Philoponus, Byzantine philosopher, who said that this doesn't really make sense.  He pointed out the absurdity of Aristotle's' claim by the sheer fact that air can't be helping with motion and resisting it at the same time.  It is now defined, very simply, using Newton's laws as the size (mass) of an object and how fast it is moving determines its momentum for continuing.  If it is very large and very fast the force it would take to make it stop would have to be equal to its size and speed.

We have many great events that have taken and are taking place that celebrates our great work around our partnership.  I would like to congratulate our three Teachers being celebrated this afternoon at Redding City Hall for Shasta Celebrates Teachers.  Devin Seibel, Robin Zedonis, and Cindy McGihon will be honored with other teachers from Shasta County for making a difference in the lives of our students.  Please stop by and celebrate with everyone and honor your fellow educators.  The celebration is from 4 pm to 8 pm as advertised.

Next Wednesday, February 5, 2020, starting at  9 am, Bonny View School will be hosting a live broadcast for World Read Aloud Day.  They will have Mike Mangas from KRCR reading live to the kids and you are welcome to tune in.  If you subscribe to Redding's Youtube channel then you will be alerted when it begins.  But I think Seth will also be sending out a link to join if you like.

Thanks to all who participated in Portrait of a Graduate four-month process as well as those that participated in the Mid-year study session last Friday.  What great conversations and feedback as well as focused attention on what our kids will need for future success.

These are only a few of the amazing things going on all over our partnership.  Let's keep the momentum going.  The ball is rolling on many great student activities but remember that if equal force is applied in the opposite direction, your great activity will stop.  Be the solution for keeping things going.  Keep applying the force on what your school is working on to make it larger and faster in order for momentum to continue.

Have a great weekend,
Rob
