Partnership Educators,

The opening lines of our United States Constitution help us to understand our part in the current situation.  

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

Our current situation is tugging at those words and begging to see how we the People hold together.   I am here to give certification and I attest to the fact that those words of our constitution are alive and well within our partnership.  That the promotion of the general Welfare of our citizens is surely taking place in our community.  I have been witness to and have heard of the total dedication to what it means to be a citizen who embraces the idea of service to others. 

  • Kitchen staff who leave their homes and prepare meals for families in need of support; custodians being flexible to come in on modified schedules to ensure the cleanliness of our buildings; administrators doing whatever it takes to help all the varieties of activities across the school; instructional assistants coming in to hand out work or help with meals.  These are just a few of the sacrifices made by the heroes among us.  
This week saw the beginning of the Distance Learning activities.  Below are just some of the examples of what is happening as we make more connections of support and learning for our students.
  • Third-grade teacher is recording and sharing videos with students on chapter reads for the joint classroom reading activity. Parents are sending back pictures of their children listening to the chapter with huge smiles on their faces.
  • Fifth-grade teacher had 100% of his students joining the Google Classroom this week and 13 of them have made every session because, as they put it.  "They like the daily connection."
  • Kindergarten teacher started "Surprise Shares" on Fridays.  Her students can share something from home but they have to first tell what sound this item starts with and what it rhymes with. Then the students can guess before they share.   Let me try; It starts with a "P" and rhymes with Daisy.  Think about it, I will give it to you later.
  • First-grade teacher who did a close reading activity with her students using the Tide Pools story and then showed up at the next meet with a background of tide pools behind her.  The kids were freaked out. 
  • A First-grade team of teachers who are working together to utilize recorded videos of reading, youtube lessons for sounds, lessons around time all while opening up ClassDojo portfolios for students to share what they are doing at home around the weekly topics.
 
  • Principal holding daily announcements each morning just like they did each day when we were on campus and parents are telling him that it is the reason why their kids get up in the morning.
We have the best jobs in the world that allow us to serve and be able to touch the lives of the People around us.  Our work is woven into the tapestry of what our nation stands for and pledges to be.  I truly appreciate the continuous efforts of our partnership family as we serve those we care deeply about in our communities.  That is what the constitution means when it says "We the People" will ensure.  This is us.  It is a privilege that each of us is willing to earn a respectful place of being a public servant that makes a great difference and it is that work that I see our People be willing to embrace each day.
