Stories Of Us - June 5, 2020

Partnership Educators,

I truly appreciate your continued focused work on your support of students' learning and family needs. We had another successful year with our students. As educators and caring members of the Redding community, we might be inclined to focus on the last two months as the focus for the entire school year. Don't get me wrong, our work these last two months was amazing. But, I also remember that we had seven other months where we also did amazing work. I am so proud of the efforts of our staff. Our focused reading instructional training and coached implementation was paying off in that our students showed us that they are becoming great readers with our highest scores for Trimester 2 this year. The efforts of school attendance teams helped to bring our attendance up nearly a full percentage point. That is nearly 1.7 million instructional minutes given back to our students. We had 72 dedicated staff, community, parents, and students meet over a four month period to develop a road map for Portrait of a Graduate learning skills. Our continued support of pathways has developed literate third graders, soon to be fourth graders, in Spanish and English. We have students writing code and building websites, robots, and games outside of school for the sake of enjoyment. Our music focus continues to produce middle school students scoring the highest marks at competitions. The Partnership Schools of Redding, Shasta, and Igo-Ono are on the rise and I can't wait to see what the future holds.

Martin Luther King Jr.

“We must remember that intelligence is not enough. Intelligence plus character-that is the goal of true education. The complete education gives one not only power of concentration, but worthy objectives upon which to concentrate.” From “The Purpose of Education” in the February 1947 edition of the Morehouse College student newspaper, the Maroon Tiger.

“There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but he must take it because conscience tells him it is right.” From “A Proper Sense of Priorities” delivered February 6, 1968, Washington, D.C.

These videos don't show all the stories about graduation ceremonies and drive-through celebrations but they are well done celebrations just the same.
