Staff Update Stories of Us - March 27, 2020

Partnership Educators,

In our work, we are predisposed to action.  Within these days of sitting and waiting we are brought to think of ideas and plans for what can be in the future.  Know that we appreciate all that people are doing in this regard and appreciate the work that you are doing.  We directly seek to sit close to difficult problems and seek to understand those issues so that we can help ourselves and others come to the place of intersection like that in a Venn diagram where new learning begets agreement on action.  We believe in public education.  This is the Redding, Shasta, and Igo way.  We believe that education will and must evolve to meet the needs of our marvelously diverse student population across our districts and constantly improve to meet the ambitions of us as educators in our community.  Within the boundaries of these beliefs, I want to thank all that are serving our public now through food service and those at work cleaning the schools. Thank you leaders who are preparing the way for our teachers and support staff to plan and implement the next steps in distance learning opportunities.  Thanks to our teachers who are connecting with our families to make sure they are doing okay in this time of change.

As we move into our next phase of supporting our students and families, know that there is one thing that I am sure will be true.  We will make mistakes and problems will arise.  With that said, I know that we will work out those issues and come back stronger for it.

 What we know:
  • State testing has been suspended for this school year.
  • All staff will continue to be paid regardless of closure.

What we want to know:
  • What are the State or County-level recommendations/mandates for the length of time for school closures based upon the Department of Public Health assessments to flatten the curve for COVID-19 infection?

Actions we are taking:

  • Teachers along with special services staff are meeting in small grade level groups next week to develop two weeks of packets for after break in case we are not able to come back to school on April 14th.
  • All teachers are contacting their students this week to assess connectivity for our families.
  • School site staff continue to deep clean and address campus needs in preparation for the reopening of our school sites.
  • We are in communication with Shasta County Office of Education about day care on a few sites for emergency personnel.
  • We are actively supplying approximately 10,000 meals a week to our community.
  • We are monitoring the ever-changing landscape and will adjust our support to our students and families as directed.

I will continue to email each week and try to articulate our next phase of planning as soon as I am able.

Sincerely and stay safe,

Rob
