Stories of Us - September 13, 2019

Partnership Educators,

This week is a solemn occasion because of the events eighteen years ago.  We are reminded of the memories of those who lost their lives in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania.  In honor of those heroic rescue workers and the pride, we have in our country; we remember those events and that day.  That day reminds us of the work that these brave individuals in our police and fire have always done for us.  I wish for us to continue to honor those individuals who have served or continue to serve in our military, police, and fire organizations.  These folks will run to our rescue and serve us at possibly one of our lowest moments.   Many of those brave and courageous individuals are loved ones of those that we serve or stand beside us each day.

Some years ago, my mother-in-law had a tragic fire in her home.   I remember getting the call and running out of the house to find her standing in the middle of her street watching fire crews battle the blaze in her home.   Adorned in a bathrobe and holding her corded phone that was detached from the base was a woman who was watching everything she owned disappear before her eyes.   The look of shock and sadness is something you never forget.  The work of the fire department to quickly extinguish the flames helped to save her home and many of her possessions.  The kindness from the police liaison was nothing short of amazing.

Thank you, public servants.  I feel better because you are there.
