UPDATE: COVID-19 Closure Plan

UPDATE: COVID-19 Closure Plan
Posted on 03/16/2020
COVID 3-16

Dear District Families,

Please know that this information and guidance is subject to change, pending any updates from
state and federal officials. We want to stress that this action is a mitigation effort and is NOT the result of a confirmed case of COVID-19 among any of our students or staff in the district. It is also done with an abundance of concern for our students, staff members and community. We are involved in a highly fluid situation with constantly changing circumstances related to COVID-19. As we’ve shared previously, we continue to be in close contact with health officials and at their advice and in coordination with other school districts we have made the decision to close Redding, Shasta, and Igo Ono Platina Elementary School District campuses to students as of Monday, March 16. We will be closed to students through the end of spring break (Monday,
April 13), including athletics and all extracurricular activities.

Instruction:
While our school facilities are closed, plans are being made for students to access optional
enrichment opportunities. Each school will post resources to their websites, which will contain information to
support enrichment activities during the closure. This information will be shared on the school
website with our communities by 2 pm on Wednesday, March 18, 2020. We appreciate your
patience while staff work to organize and post these resources.
We will not be asking students to complete any assignments. Our intent is to provide support to
students with enrichment opportunities.

Facilities:
While we are closed to the public, a dedicated team from our custodial, maintenance and
operations departments will continue to conduct deep cleaning of our campuses to ensure our
facilities are sanitized prior to reopening.

Student Meals:
Redding, Shasta, and Igo School Districts will provide an opportunity for families to pick up two
meals daily (lunch and breakfast for the following day) in a mobile walk-up or drive-thru meal
service for children 18 and under. You can pick up as many meals during this service based on
the number of children that are in the car at the time of pick up. This will begin Tuesday, March
17 at all 9 school sites from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. At this time, this service will continue
through Friday, April 3, with some possible location adjustments based on numbers of
participants at each distribution site. If a location has low participation, then we may be forced
to consolidate to fewer locations.
Food distribution Monday through Friday at the following locations: Look for Signs to direct
pick-up at each location.

Redding

  • Bonny View – 5080 Bidwell, Redding CA 96001
  • Cypress – 2015 Civic Center Dr., Redding CA 96001
  • Juniper – 375 Ellis St., Redding, CA 96001

Shasta

  • Shasta Elementary – 10446 Red Bluff Rd. Shasta, CA 96087

Igo Ono Platina

These meals will be available free of charge for anyone 18 and under regardless of what school
they attend. No paperwork is required. Children must be present in order for meals to
be provided. Meals will be provided based on the number of children present. This program will
be solely for the pick up of meals, and meals will not be consumed on-site. We encourage
families to continue to be proactive in reducing the risk of COVID-19 by not congregating at the
school site and utilizing social distancing once meals have been distributed.

Supervision Support:
Due to the closing of Redding School District School’s, there may be resources within our
community that might be available to help you with your child’s supervision. The website
https://211norcal.org/shasta/search/children-family/ is being shared in the event that parents are
in need of connecting with community resources in regards to childcare and other support
services.

We will continue to do our best to keep you informed. Circumstances may change quickly so we
encourage you to check our website at www.reddingschools.net for updates. We will also provide regular updates via our Redding Schools Facebook Page here - https://www.facebook.com/ReddingSD We recognize that this closure will be a hardship for many families and appreciate your patience and cooperation as we help to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and families.

Sincerely,

Robert Adams
