Stories of Us - August 14, 2020

Partnership Educators,
What a great time walking the schools and seeing the kids and staff interacting again.  This time of year is the best.  Some of our schools had the opportunity to have two first days with kids.  That is so fantastic to consider that we are some of the few privileged to get to experience the pure joy and excitement of kids returning back to school.  Actually, I know you all well enough to see the pure joy and excitement that you have for your return back with kids.  Thanks for living the joy of learning with our kids.  They are thankful.
As we build ways to help our students learn how to live our Portrait of a Graduate Traits and we discover ways that we can learn to exemplify these traits, I would like to point out some individuals that are living examples.
If you are not familiar with our Portrait traits please go here to learn more.  https://www.reddingschools.net/parents/academic_immersion_programs/portrait_of_a_graduate Our goal here is to build programs and environments that help our students learn how to live these traits.  If we all could live to these traits, what a great place to go to school.
As a district, we chose to serve our families by giving choice within multiple programs.  This is certainly not the easier road to follow.  Most surrounding districts have chosen one model and stuck with it.  With these choices comes consequences that need to be overcome.
This first person I would like to highlight exemplifies our traits every day.  I could have chosen this person for any one of the traits but I will stick with just one.  Adaptability is when someone can thrive in an environment of ambiguity while seeking feedback and criticism and all along build a balanced workable solution.  Congratulations to Tawny Cowell for the Adaptability award for the start of this year.  Her tireless work has helped to plan the feeding of our kids within a multitude of programs across schools as well as make all of the health and safety protocols get put in place while helping with construction projects when needed.  Nothing short of a miracle really.  As one person wrote to me yesterday, "Tawny deserves 'Employee of the Century'"  That is an understatement.
These are the stories that we write every day that change the stories of the kids that we serve.  Regular people, doing regular work, at an extraordinary level.  Thanks for your conscious efforts to live our vision and act on our mission every day.  You all are doing extraordinary work for our extraordinary students.
Have a great first weekend,
Rob
