Dear Redding Families,

As we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, the safety of students and staff continues to be the top priority.  By now, you are aware that Governor Newsom, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond, and Shasta County Health Department Director Donnell Ewert are still recommending closures at this time.  As such, all of the Redding Schools have aligned with that recommendation.  We will continue to have no on-site instruction until further notice.

This does not mean that the school year is over. Our schools have thoughtfully transitioned from providing in-person classroom instruction to age-appropriate distance learning.  A big thank you to all students, families, and staff who are successfully shifting and adjusting to a new learning environment with distance learning.  Parents, your connections and commitment to your child’s teacher and principal will make this time a valuable learning experience for your child.  At this time, all families should have received specific instructions from your school on what distance learning looks like for your student.  For more information, please visit our Distance Learning Website at http://learnonline.reddingschools.net/

For parents and students experiencing challenges with logging into school site distance learning activities, please visit our learning online website from above to receive some support. Remember to:

  • Establish a comfortable space for learning
  • Set a daily routine
  • Communicate with teachers
  • Get familiar with tools and resources
  • Practice daily healthy habits for learning

The Redding School District will continue to provide essential meal service for students. Together, we are serving over 8,000 meals each week.  We are very proud and grateful for our food service teams.  You can find a list of times and locations at http://learnonline.reddingschools.net/meal-distribution-2020/

As a parent and grandparent myself, I know how challenging it is to manage distance learning while also juggling adult responsibilities.  I cannot emphasize enough how much effort we are putting into supporting our students academically and emotionally during this time.  Additionally, while this isn’t school as usual, I do have faith that our students will come out of this disruption with new skills, new insights, and new ways of connecting with their peers, their community, and their education.  If you are struggling and need support please contact your site principal so they can have someone reach out to you to offer resources.

More information about future changes will continue to come out as fast as new information becomes available.   Please stay connected by checking our school websites or Facebook pages for these news updates.

I certainly appreciate the grace and support you have given as we all adapt to this new way of teaching and learning.
