COVID-19 Related Information for Families

COVID-19 Related Information For Families
Posted on 03/12/2020

Dear Redding School District Families,

I begin with a sincere thank you for all of our community diligence and support throughout the last few weeks as we have worked together to navigate this challenging landscape. I am writing today with updated information on new steps that Redding School District will be taking.

We have been closely monitoring all information involving coronavirus/COVID-19 to provide for the safety and health of our students, staff and community, which is our top priority. To ensure that the Redding School District is responding and planning to this current situation, our information and recommendations for action come from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Shasta County Department of Public Health (SCDPH), and Shasta County Office of Education (SCOE). We are taking logical, research-based measures to help mitigate the spread of the virus. At the same time, those concerns must be balanced against tradeoffs and unintended consequences for students, staff, families and the community at large.

Although, there is only one case within Shasta County and the transmission of the virus remains low and while there are no known cases in our schools or District, we are following the recommendations and guidance of the Shasta County Department of Public Health and postponing some non-essential school and District events. Please know that the decision to postpone or cancel events is not taken lightly, as we know that our students and staff have worked tirelessly to plan and bring many amazing experiences to our students to enhance and/or showcase their learning.

All of our schools have events that are planned in the upcoming weeks and we are monitoring and making decisions in two-week increments of time. As asked by the Governor and Health officials we will increase our role in supporting “social distancing” by taking steps listed below. The guidelines we are using in determining if an event continues as planned or be postponed include:
1. How many individuals are participating?
2. Are the individuals from within the school only or outside, including other schools in the District?
3. Is participating essential to learning for our students?
District events that are being postponed at this time include:
• Field Trips and travel to public locations.
• Sporting Events
• Non-essential school assemblies
• School Open Houses
• All school & District level parent/community advisory meetings, “Coffee with Principal” meetings, etc…
• Participation of outside agencies on school grounds including visitors and volunteers.
There may be school site field trips or events that are being postponed at your child’s school. I encourage you to stay up-to-date on changes with these events. You will be receiving information from your school principal regarding these specific school events. During the next weeks we will reevaluate the facts within our community and determine our ability to transition back to more normal operations or extend the above social distancing measures as needed.

Thank you for support and understanding during this time of uncertainty. We will continue to keep you informed as any new information is known, including the dates of any events that are rescheduled. I humbly thank you for your continued support of our students and staff, and for being our partners in education.

Sincerely,

Robert Adams
Superintendent
